The Guardian was founded in 1821 by John Edward Taylor it was first published on May 5 of the same year. The paper was intended to promote the liberal interest in the aftermath of the Peterloo Massacre. Published weekly on Saturdays until 1836 when they added a Wednesday edition. In 1855 the abolition of the Stamp Act made it possible to publish daily. Under editorship of CP Scott the Guardian received national and international recognition he held the position until 1872. He bought the paper in 1907 after Taylor's son died promising to hold up the principles laid by the founders. "Comment is free, but facts are scared... The voice of opponents no less than that of friends has a right to be heard." Scott later passed control to his sons John and Edward Scott. Scared for either ones death both agreed that if one died the other would buy their share. CP Scott died in 1932 and Edward followed four months later. Faced with death John decided to give away his inheritance. June 1936 he passed ownership to trustees of the Scott Trust. Editor of the paper later moved to London in 1964., shortly afterwards they faced financial problems. Times became tough that thought of merging the paper came closer to reality. In 1988 the Guardian made a risky move and made a major redesign. The Guardian began creating online publication in 1994-95. March 2001 the Guardian had over 2.4 million unique users making it the most popular UK newspaper website. December 2008 the Guardian moved from a building in Farringdon to one in King's Cross. The Guardian worked years to establish its credibility and insure that it was able to reach its audience on all platforms. It worked years so it would be able to cover various events on the daily including different topics. It has grown out of the UK and establish a United States edition. The Guardian has grown internationally in order to reach their audience from where ever they find themselves.
