By Robin McKie
McKie writes to inform so he maintained a scholarly diction throughout the article. McKie has no set emotion when he writes about the endangerment of the whales, he only focuses on providing information. This diction gives way to the author having a forthright tone he maintains himself detached from anything that isn't real statements and facts. McKie appeals to ethos by establishing the credibility of each of his statements he included he also includes exact locations and names to make sure his audience knows his information is credible. He wants his readers to trust he is giving them the correct information. Whale endangerment of the "right" whales is a serious matter and he wants to be a credible source when people research this topic. McKie wanted to inform his audience on how the "right" whale endangerment took a turn for a worse and how these ship traps are affecting several whales. McKie elaborated by including information of situations where whales where found losing weight all weak because they were hauling around the big, heavy traps they accidentally got into.
