By: Paul Greene and Joshua Gordon In the article, the writers keep a formal diction, which they use to establish their emotional detachment from the subject. Although they keep an ambivalent tone since they cannot establish an opinion. They include background information to the event so they can inform their readers. They use words like 'could' and 'but' to establish their uncertainty into this blind coin toss of what will happen to Kaepernick. Including information on contracts and they include definitions to appeals to those who know little of the NFL. In order to have a larger outreach, they include all the necessary information to make the situation understandable. The purpose of both authors was to inform that Kaepernick had a bigger purpose for his actions and he still has one for his retaliation. He continues to fight this to prove his point. Now whether they support him is not certain. Although for sure they have gathered enough information that for Kaepernick will be able to play again for the NFL. In the article the authors use ethos they establish their credibility to the knowledge they have provided through their careers and education of the NFL and all of its technicalities. They also appeal to pathos when they include that Kaepernick took a knee during the national anthem as a protest to what he believes to be unfair treatment. They include this to talk about a subject that is very emotional for many. Their overall argument is done through the appeals, that Kaepernick may not get his job back but if he gets the evidence he needs he will receive millions of dollars but that is not the point since he does is for justice. The article was structured like a question and answer outline, this made it appear to the point direct including what was the need for background first then going onto what was occurring at the moment and finally the purpose to Kaepernick's actions. Together the authors created a solid argument that may have included some uncertain statements which they covered with information and background.
